Every Infection of Personal Antivirus is a bit different. Some people will be able to install and update security software while others will not.

It's very important to note that EVERY computer infected with Personal Antivirus also has several other viruses or trojans that need to be removed or else this program will just re-install again or worse your system may become unstable.

Please read all the directions first before starting. If you find they are too complicated or you don't have enough time to do everything and just need your computer back ASAP then we suggest www.onlinecomputerrepair.org. This is a remote computer repair company that is based in California. The cost is around $89 bucks.

Step One. Book Mark this site. You will be re-booting several times. If you do plan on purchasing a security client then try to download SDA HERE. It works to remove this. If you are able to download it and get all the updates with out being blocked by the virus then just run a intelli scan first. Once done hit the remove button. Then re-boot and run a full scan. You are now PAV free as well as virus free. If you do not intend on purchasing any software or were unable to download, install and update SDA then go to the next step.

Step Two: Press ctrl + del + alt at the same time. This will open up the Task Manager. Vista users will need to select the Task Manager after pressing the key combination. If the Task Manager is Disabled by the virus then go straight to Step XX

Step three: End the Personal Antivirus running Process. In many cases it will be PAV.exe or something similar like PersonalAntivirus.exe, run.exe, new.exe. Once This process is ended you should now be able to open up what ever security product you already have installed on your computer. If you do not have a client we suggest Spyware Doctor with Antivirus because it does work to remove this threat. If you are not willing to purchase security software then you can still move on however we should note that it will take a ton more work and several scans using other free tools. Plus you will not have good enough protection.

Step Four: Install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus DOWNLOAD HERE. Even if you do not intend on purchasing the client you will need to download it to find all the file traces. Install the program and update it. If you are not able to update the client or even download it then your HOSTS file is infected. Move to step 5. If you are able to install and update it then proceed to Step 6.

Step 5: For those that have infected HOSTS files. If you are unable to browse security website's or install clients then it is most likely because this file is infected. Open up Notepad Under the Accessories folder. You can get there normally through The Windows Start Button on the bottom Left > Accessories > Notepad . Then hit the File tab and select open. A dialog box will pop-up. From there you can browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ect\hosts. If you do not see the hosts file that is because you need to select the drop down box to show ALL FILES.

Once this is open compare it to the below. Anything with a # in front can be ignored. You do need to have the "127.0.0.1 localhost" but everything else under that can be deleted. Basically anything that does not have a # or the 127.0.0.1 localhost can be removed. Then just save the file. Now try to update or install the security software again. If this works move to Step 8.

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Step Six : If you plan on purchasing Spyware Doctor with Antivirus then just do so now. Run an Intelli scan first. Remove whatever it finds and re-boot. Then run a full scan. That is it for people who purchase the program. Your computer should be 100% back to normal now.

Step 7: After SDA is installed you will need to run an intelli scan. The purpose of this is to find any new or mutated traces. It will also let you know how badly you are infected with anything else. From there you may need to find other removal guides for anything that is not PAV related.

THE MAIN GUTS SECTION

Step 8: SDA should of already been ran. Under the details section of your scan you can hit the down arrow to show ALL THE traces of PAV. Browse down to were the folders are. SDA will show you the exact path of the infections.

For instance many people will find that the PAV files are stored at c:\Program Files\Personal Antivirus\ or c:\Program Files\PAV\. delete the folder and everything in the folder. If you get an error about not being able to delete the directory because a file is still in use then use the Task Manager (ctrl + del + Alt ) to end that process and then delete the file again right away. If your Task Manager is Disabled then download Process killer from our Removal software page. Install the program and then end the process. Go ahead and try to delete the file traces again.

Step 9. Download Smtifruadfix from our Removal Software Page. Run the program and select option 2. When asked to clean the temp files go ahead. When asked to clean the Registry select Y for yes. Run this program regardless if any of the above steps did not work so far. If you are unable to download this program then you will need access to a second computer. Download it onto that one and then place it on a jump drive, network, disc and copy it over to the infected computer. After the tool is ran the user should re-boot the computer. Keep in mind that SDA may block this tool from running. If that is the case then you will need hit the allow button for the program.

Step 10: By now you should have already cleaned most of PAV from your computer. For those who still refuse to purchase SDA you will now need to download and install two other programs. Spybot Search and Destroy and MalwareBytes. Both can be found on our Personal Antivirus Removal Software Page. Install both clients. Update both clients and run both clients. They can both be ran at the same time. Keep in mind that you are still infected and that SDA is blocking viruses and Spyware from re-installing while your doing all of this. Once the two scans are done then follow the on screen prompts to remove what ever it found. You should re-boot at this point

Step 11: Now that most of the threats have been removed you can now remove Spybot Search and Destroy and malwarebyes as well as Smitfraud fix. None of them offer that good of real time protection or none at all. This is a matter of opinion from past experiences.

Step 12: Download and Install AVG or Avast from our Personal Antivirus Removal Software Page. Then run the client. Only one needs to be ran. See if it picks up any other traces. If it does then remove the traces found.

Step 13. Run an in depth full scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Ensure it does not find any other virus or spyware. You do not need to be worried about cookies or sites it may say are a virus. These are nothing to be overly worried about. If it does not pick up any viruses left or traces then you are good to go. You can now un-install this client if you do not intend on purchasing it.

Step 14: If the last scan of SDA did pick up other viruses and the like then you will need to manually remove the traces or search the net for removal guides on what ever threats are left. PAV should for sure be gone at this time.

Final thoughts: I know this virus can take a lot of effort to remove. That is why it is so important to have up-front live protection. You already know we recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. The truth is I don't care what you end up using. It's your computer not mine. I don't use free clients for protection because most do not provide real up front protection. Remember you get what you pay for.
