Personal Antivirus is a fake security product. These type of fake security tools are none as Smitfraud to the experts. In short they are scams that try to trick and scare users into purchasing the product.
Personal Antivirus is a virus that mutates all the time. The files traces change in an effort to dodge security products. This is not anything new. Most people who are infected with this will have several things in common.
- Highjacked desktop and users being unable to change the desktop
- May block security website's to make it hard for the users to get updates or install security clients
- May block and close down security clients
- Gives off false scan results and miss leading information about the user being infected
- Disables the Windows Task Manager
- Disables System Restore
- Disables Access to the Registry
- High jacks the users internet browser
Not everyone will experience all these issues. In every case I have encountered ( Well over 100 ) I found that users infected with this also have several other trojans or viruses installed as well. Most people get infected with this from fake video patches or codec software.
